2007 was a good year.
Richard and Averil were much moved when William J. Reese
dedicated his latest book, History, Education, and the Schools (Palgrave,
2007), ‘To Richard and Averil Aldrich for their kindness,
generosity and friendship’. On 10th June, together with family
and friends, they celebrated Richard’s 70th birthday in the
Millennium Suite at The Valley, and enjoyed good holidays in
Madeira, Jersey and France.
Richard’s professional highlights included receiving an
honorary award from the 29th Congress of the International
Standing Conference of the History of Education meeting in
Hamburg in July, and being presented with History, Politics and
Policy-making in Education: a festschrift presented to Richard Aldrich,
edited by David Crook and Gary McCulloch (Institute of
Education, 2007) in October.
