Introduction
Richard Aldrich, Emeritus Professor of the History of Education at the Institute of Education, University of London, is the leading exponent of the application of historical perspectives to current educational issues.
He has contributed some 15 books and 80 articles to the field, has been presented with two festschriften, Whitehead and O’Donoghue, eds, 2004 and Crook and McCulloch, eds, 2007 and was profiled in Historia de la Educación in 2008.
Richard’s acclaimed article, ‘Education for survival: an historical perspective’, first published in History of Education, is included in the ‘Routledge Education Class of 2011’ and can be downloaded without charge from that site. Publications in 2012 include a new Routledge edition of School and Society in Victorian Britain (first published by Garland in 1995), a Japanese translation of
A Century of Education and a chapter on ‘Enlightenment, evolution and education’ in a book edited by Sjaak Braster and published by Peter Lang.
